You wouldn’t know it by looking at me now – but growing up, I was a very chubby kid. I was introverted, wasn’t much for outside activities, and my favorite meal consisted of chicken fingers and french-fries. I constantly saw flaws in myself, which led to a huge lack of self confidence, and that wasn’t helped by family and friends poking fun at my weight. I hid in oversized hoodies, and even used a corset in order to make my stomach appear flat.
In 8th grade, I started to slim out. My parents separated, and I moved with my Mom and brother to an area by the beach. I went from spending no time outside to constantly walking around and making friends. I remained a smaller size until I reached college. That’s when the freshmen 30 - no, not the freshmen 15, I’m talking 30 pounds hit. I was eating food that was terrible for me, which included Taco Bell, pizza, Chinese food, chicken fingers, fries and entire foot long egg salad subs. I also adopted a lot of bad habits such as excessive alcohol use and smoking cigarettes. I was the epitome of unhealthy.
Once I hit 21 years old, I said enough was enough. I found out a former classmate of mine was running a bikini challenge on YouTube, so my best friend and I decided to enter. Our before pictures/videos were absolutely horrifying, but putting ourselves out there to the rest of the world really helped us to stay motivated. Neither of us won, but we made very healthy changes in the process – starting to eat healthier and exercise regularly. This continued to be my lifestyle for the next 2 years, but I still hadn’t kicked some of those unhealthy habits. I was still drinking, smoking and I was calorie restricting to 1200 calories a day, regardless of how much I exercised (which got up to nearly 3 times a day.)
In 2011, I met my now husband, fell in love very quickly, and was married within 6 months. 3 months later, we conceived our first child, Jackson. I tried to stay healthy while pregnant with him, but found myself eating a lot of unhealthy foods, because don’t you know I was allowed because I was pregnant! ;) I also stopped exercising other than walking a mile or so everyday. During my whole pregnancy, I only gained 25 pounds, but I lost almost all of my muscle and strength.
Once I hit 6 weeks postpartum, I wanted to start exercising again. My best friend suggested that I try out Insanity, so I did…and I was hooked! I actually didn’t lose that many inches or pounds, but I felt so much tighter and stronger.
After Insanity, my best friend told me that she had signed up as a Beachbody coach and was drinking Shakeology. I’m not going to lie – I called her crazy. I thought it was going to do nothing for her and that Shakeology was WAY too expensive. I had always (and still am) super cheap, so I would buy the $20 protein powder from Walmart. I had absolutely NO interest any of it whatsoever. But, because my husband was military and I was able to become a coach for free, I signed up just to do her a favor. I decided to try out P90X and Insanity as a hybrid and was doing really well for about a month.
I figured since I was able to coach for free, I might as well do something with it. So, I very RELUCTANTLY tried out Shakeology just so that I’d be able to recommend it to my customers. Let me tell you, I was NOT expecting to fall in love with it...but I did! I started drinking it regularly and the weight just started shedding off. I lost at a rate 3 times faster than I had with working out alone. Not only that, but I had way more energy and it helped curb my sweet tooth cravings. I think my transformation difference once I started drinking Shakeology (P90X/Insanity) compared to not (just Insanity) speaks for itself.
Since then, I’ve completed 2 more programs – Les Mills Combat and Body Beast. By the end of these programs combined with drinking Shakeology, I got down to a 16% body fat. I have NEVER been a 16% body fat at any other point in my life. I’ve even quit smoking, basically quit drinking and Shakeology helped me to stop drinking coffee. My success truly is because of the Beachbody programs and Shakeology.
Because of Beachbody, I realized my potential in life too. I have completed half of my Master Nutrition Certification, am only 2 semesters away from finishing an associates degree in Business and I’m able to be a stay at home mom – all while bringing in income and helping people everyday.
Now that I’m 22 weeks pregnant once again, I am still drinking Shakeology and just finishing up the 21 Day Fix. I have so much more energy now than I did with Jackson’s pregnancy because I have stayed active and supplied my body with nutrition. I can’t believe that I ever thought that Beachbody was a waste of time and I can’t even imagine where I’d be without it now.
Since writing this, I've completed 3 rounds of the 21 Day Fix. If you've read my blog posts, or are friends with me on Facebook, you've heard all about how much I LOVED it. Like I said in the previous paragraph, I really didn't stay that active during my pregnancy with Jackson, and I REALLY regretted it. This pregnancy has been so much different. I feel amazing, I'm so much more energetic, and most importantly, Elenora and I are both extremely healthy. I even get compliments from my midwife every single time I go in for my appointments.
If you're wondering whether or not it's healthy to do this program while pregnant - let me ask you this. Do you think clean eating with exercise is better...or going to eat fast food, and becoming less active? The answer is obvious, and Beachbody helped me to stay at a more than optimal health thus far during my pregnancy.
Do I have the body I had pre-pregnancy? Of course not! I'm pregnant in my third trimester! But do I feel like I did with my first pregnancy? NOT AT ALL!! I have so much energy, I have WAY less cravings (thank you Shakeology!), and my hormones are way more in check. Through my Beachbody family, I've had a ton of support throughout my fit pregnancy. Seriously, once again, Beachbody, you haven't failed me! <3
Since my last update, I've obviously given birth and I'm now just over 9 weeks postpartum. During the time between birth and now, I've went from living in Texas to moving all the way across the country with 2 kids! It was an adjustment, especially for my workout and clean eating/meal planning schedules!
I began the 21 Day Fix meal plan briefly after having Ellie, for as long as I could without having to buy new food for the house since we were moving. I started exercising daily again at 3 weeks postpartum with a mix of the fix, piyo, body beast and running.
Now I'm onto a PiYo/21 Day Fix hybrid, and I'm ready to LOSE THE BABY WEIGHT! Everyone always tells me "you look fantastic!" Which, thank you to all of you! But what many people don't realize is that even for people like myself who are confident with exercise and nutrition, even we don't always feel as though we look or feel our best.
Below is a comparison from my very first day on this health journey in 2011, to my healthiest/most toned body right after finishing Body Beast/a clean eating challenge before finding out I was pregnant with Ellie in 2013, and today, which is day 2 of my new PiYo/21 Day Fix challenge. I'm SO excited to get back to that 2nd picture, and I know I will. Why? Because I'm determined, and I have a strong reason why - to stay healthy for my children, and to be a shining example for them to grow up with!
So, that's my story! I've had my ups and I've had my downs, but now that I have Beachbody and an amazing team of coaches and customers motivating and inspiring me along the way, all I can see is up.
Now I challenge you to all share your story! If you do it on Facebook, tag me in it!
